PERSONAL AND BROTHERLY RESPONSIBILITY (PRB) PROGRAM

If you are at a Fraternity Event, you are your Brother’s Keeper.

  1. Chapter Excellence & Quality Program
    1. Self-assessment and external evaluation procedures based on Chapter Standards.
    2. Expectations of Personal and BROTHERLY Behavior (adapted from the Inter-Fraternity Council).

  2. Risk Management (RM) Policy – a key element of our official Chapter Standards.

  3. Chapter Education Program:
    1. Reading our RM Policy at the first Chapter meeting of the year, with discussion of issues.
    2. Module during Membership Education (“pledging”) about personal responsibility and risk management.
    3. Exercises in RM at regional and national meetings.
    4. Specification of RM responsibilities in chapter officers’ job description.
    5. Articles on personal responsibility in The Communicator.
    6. Targeted messages sent to Brothers individually via electronic mail from Grand or 1. Regional Officers (e.g., don’t drink and drive; holiday travel safety; you can have fun without alcohol; sexual respect).
    7. Exercises on the types and roles of insurance in personal and corporate financial affairs.
    8. Education and networking for Chapter Advisors

  4. Exemplary Social Programming at Regional & National Meetings Fun social events with no alcohol consumed or consumed in a BYOB or bartender (unit-dose) fashion, with non-alcoholic alternatives readily available. These events serve as examples to imitate back on home campuses.

  5. Chapter Discipline Options - probation or suspension in a progressive discipline fashion for violation of Chapter Standards or Risk Management Policy (focusing especially on inappropriate alcohol or sexual behavior).

  6. Liability insurance to protect the assets of the Fraternity, its officers, and agents. Based on experiences of fraternities and sororities at campuses across the country, possible adverse outcomes of litigation over liability can range from reprimands up to seizure of chapter houses or other property or garnishment of students’ future wages for up to 10 years.
  7. Chapter Alumni Support - personal responsibility for their activities, as role models for collegiate Brothers.
