Amy Valdez, R.Ph

A lifelong resident of Oregon, Amy graduated from Oregon State University with a B.S. in pharmacy in
1999 and since then has been a licensed, practicing pharmacist in the state of Oregon.

She has practiced in community practice as a Staff Pharmacist, Pharmacy Manager, and Clinical Services

Manager. These roles offered her opportunities to be both patient facing and serve as a coach and
mentor to store based pharmacists and interns. She currently works in ambulatory care as a Clinical
Pharmacy Manager for Kaiser Permanente overseeing anticoagulation services for over 9,000 members
in the Northwest Region.

Amy’s interest in public health and pharmacy services was nurtured early in her career when
pharmacists gained the ability to prescribe and administer vaccines. Since then, pharmacy-based
immunization practice has become a specialty of hers and where she has concentrated her time both
personally and professionally. Her specialties also include travel health & prevention services,
medication therapy management, biometric screenings, health coaching and disease state management,
medication administration, and smoking cessation. She is also active in pharmacist prescribing of
hormonal contraception and naloxone. She is a faculty instructor for multiple APhA certificate training
programs and precepts students from many universities. She has also been an active participant in the
Oregon Immunization Coalition, the Oregon Immunization Policy Advisory Team and is the pharmacist
representative for the newly formed Oregon HPV coalition. Amy has been a prominent figure in
immunization related legislation over the last 10 years, actively promoting increased rights for
pharmacists and access for patients across the lifespan.

She continually looks for ways to develop herself and others to stay abreast of the changing dynamics of
pharmacy practice. She prides herself on being an active advocate for her profession and a lifelong
volunteer. She participates in the Oregon Pharmacy Coalition legislative group and is the President for
the Oregon State Pharmacy Association as well as a delegate to APhA for the state of Oregon. She serves
on the OSPA Emergency Preparedness Committee. She has previously been chosen as OSPA Pharmacist
of the Year and OSU Distinguished Young Alumnus. Most recently she has been appointed by the
governor to the Public Health & Pharmacy Formulary Advisory Committee. This committee will decide
what pharmacists in Oregon can prescribe going forward. Her most memorable pharmacy
accomplishments include: serving as the primary lead to change the immunizing age for pharmacists
from age 11 to age 7, being the first community pharmacist to administer gluteal injectable medications
for addiction and mental health patients, and serving as the coordinator for the pharmacy response to
the Meningococcal outbreak at the University of Oregon.

Her Phi Delta Chi career includes serving at the Beta Iota Chapter as WMA, WVC, and WCC and serving
the Western Region as Regional Director for Alumni Affairs. She was elected to Grand Vice President for
Collegiate Affairs at the 2009 Grand Council in Scottsdale, AZ and served 1 term in this role. She was
then elected to Grand President at the 2011 Grand Council in Buffalo, NY and served in this role for 2
terms before assuming the role of Grand Past President.

She resides in Tigard, OR with her family which includes partner Doug, and 3 children Abigail, Aidan, and
Allison. She loves to travel with her family, spend time at the beach, camp, go wine-tasting, explore new
foods, and cook.
